Natural wetlands are recognized as an important natural feature of catchments, providing a range ecosystem services in addition to their intrinsic value. Monitoring and restoring key wetlands was identified as a high priority in the EMP. In 2009, the Tuggerah Lakes Wetland Management Plan was completed to guide ongoing management priorities.
With the support of Australian Government grant funding, wetland rehabilitation works have taken place at Chittaway Bay, Berkeley Vale, Toukley, Budgewoi, North Wyong/ Tacoma and Elizabeth Bay.

Berkeley Vale Wetland - after: Lantana treated and assembled into habitat mounds for small birds and reptiles -
Elizabeth Bay Riparian Bush Regeneration, focusing on removing exotic weed species from the stream bank. Supplementary planting of native vegetation species of providence, streambank stabilization using eco-friendly jute matting as well as introducing branches as habitat. -
Morning glory treated, resulting in additional sunlight for native understory and groundcover regeneration. -
McDonagh Wetland has seen dramatic improvement after invasive weed species such as Morning Glory, Cape Ivy and Ink Weed have been treated and removed. The fringe of this Wetland has now been planted out using native sedges and grasses to establish a protective barrier to reduce weed incursion. This extensive Bush Regeneration project has seen a tremendous natural regeneration response and a rapid increase of Biodiversity. -
Invasive aquatic weeds carefully removed, and densities reduced. Native macrophytes, sedges and water tolerant natives planted throughout the site. -
